Toronto, ON, June 15, 2011 – The board of directors of the Certified General Accountants of Ontario announces the newly elected officers for the 2011-12 fiscal year; namely, Blake Mercer, FCGA, elected chair of the board, Janice Charko, FCGA, elected vice-chair and Anthony Stilo, FCGA, elected secretary-treasurer. Frank Mensink, FCGA, Kitchener is the immediate past chair.
Blake Mercer, FCGA, Burlington, was admitted to membership in 2002 and is a partner in the firm of Mercer & Mercer, Certified General Accountants. Blake has been a member of the executive committee of CGA Ontario’s board of directors; a voting representative on CGA Canada’s national professional standards committee; a chair of CGA Ontario’s admissions standards committee; a member of the professional standards and competency committee and a member of the volunteer task force.
Janice Charko, FCGA, Toronto, obtained her designation in 1982 and is a partner in NandanCharkoTurnerMoore LLP. Janice has served on many committees for CGA Ontario including admission standards and has chaired the financial subcommittee of the National Education Committee at CGA Canada.
Anthony Stilo, FCGA, Ajax, obtained his CGA designation in 1991 and is the vice-president and chief audit officer for MCAP, a mortgage origination and servicing company. He has served on the Association’s executive committee and has chaired the professional standards, discipline and audit committees.
Other newly elected board members for the 2011-12 year include: Restituto Del Rosario, CGA, Mississauga, John Hunter, FCGA, Oshawa and Sandra Whyte, FCGA, Sarnia join the 18-member board of directors elected to manage the Association under the Certified General Accountants Act, 2010.
The board has also approved the 2011-12 appointments of Ron Harvey, CGA to CGA Canada’s national education committee and Edward Carter, FCGA to CGA Canada’s national professional standards committee.
Elections for the Certified General Accountants of Ontario’s board of directors are held by authority of the Association’s Bylaws, Article 2.
Certified General Accountants of Ontario is a selfâgoverning body that grants the exclusive rights to the CGA designation, and controls the professional standards, conduct and discipline of its members and students in the province of Ontario. Certified General Accountants (CGAs) are committed to meeting the needs of their businesses and organizations with insight and leadership. In Ontario, there are more than 20,000 CGAs and approximately 8,000 students working towards their designation.
