TORONTO, February 4, 2010 — Seneca students are now able to fast-track to a CGA designation while still in school. CGA Ontario has accredited Seneca’s International Accounting and Finance degree providing graduates with the requirements for direct entry into CGA’s program at the Professional Applications and Competency Evaluations level.
“With this accreditation, the Certified General Accountants of Ontario have acknowledged the caliber of education students receive at Seneca,” said David Agnew, Seneca College President. “It will save students time and money by putting them on the fast track to a rewarding career in a growing industry.”
The International Accounting and Finance degree program provides a unique accounting education that gives students knowledge in the areas of business, finance and technology. Along with completing courses leading to professional certification during the program, graduates may find careers as a small business controller, divisional and corporate accountant, accountant technology analyst, investment accountant, or international financial analyst.
“Seneca’s accounting and finance co-op program laid the foundation for my success in obtaining my CGA designation ten years ago and in a long prosperous career with a large public accounting firm,” said Marc Slozberg, CGA, Senior Manager, private company services, assurance & advisory, Deloitte. “I attribute my success to Seneca’s professionally run co-op education program and the focus of the College and CGA designation on practical learning. Future CGA students will benefit greatly from the accreditation of Seneca’s International Accounting & Finance degree program.”

“This is a significant milestone in our continuing partnership with Seneca College," said Doug Brooks, FCGA, CEO of the Certified General Accountants of Ontario. “I firmly believe this accredited program will open doors for its students, helping them to further achieve their goals. The CGA designation tells an employer that a prospect is well equipped to add value to an organization no matter what the future brings.”
CGA Ontario is a self-governing body that grants the exclusive rights to the CGA designation, and controls the professional standards, conduct and discipline of its members and students in the province of Ontario. Certified general accountants (CGAs) are committed to meeting the needs of their businesses and organizations with strategic insight, leadership and demonstrated abilities. In Ontario, there are more than 19,000 CGAs and approximately 8,000 students working towards their designation. www.cga-ontario.org / www.cga-yourcareer.org / http://www.facebook.com/cga
