WINDSOR, SEPTEMBER 14, 2009 — University of Windsor's Odette School of Business (OSB) and the Certified General Accountants of Ontario (CGA Ontario) will host a reception in recognition of OSB’s achievement of professional level accreditation with the CGA program of professional studies. This reception will take place Tuesday, September 29, 2009 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the University of Windsor's Odette School of Business, 401 Sunset Avenue, 3rd floor atrium. Accounting focussed students, university officials, professors, business supporters of the school, alumni, and certified general accountants, will attend the event, including:
"The University of Windsor's Odette School of Business is proud to have achieved this important professional accreditation. It gives students a head start in building a successful career, exactly in line with the school's mission," said Dr. Allan Conway, dean, Odette School of Business. "It will provide graduating OSB students, who have taken the required courses in the bachelor of commerce (honours business administration) program, the highest level of transfer credits achievable towards the CGA designation."
"This is a win-win accomplishment for both University of Windsor and CGA Ontario," said Doug Brooks, FCGA, chief executive officer, CGA Ontario. "With the professional accreditation level for accounting in place, business students will be primed for success in the CGA program. Choosing to pursue the CGA designation benefits students at any stage of their education and throughout their career; it equips them with the tools for success."
The Odette School of Business (OSB) is located in Windsor, Ontario and is named in honour of long standing supporters Edmond and Louis Odette. The goal of OSB is to be the preferred school for students and practitioners seeking excellence in competencies required by the business professions.
CGA Ontario is a self-governing body that grants the exclusive rights to the CGA designation, and controls the professional standards, conduct and discipline of its members and students in the province of Ontario. Certified general accountants (CGAs) are committed to meeting the needs of their businesses and organizations with strategic insight, leadership and demonstrated abilities. In Ontario, there are more than 19,000 CGAs and approximately 9,000 students working towards their designation.
