Ottawa Chapter

Ottawa Branch, and its sibling Toronto Branch, represent the original autonomous Ontario branches of the Certified General Accountants’ Association. In 1944, the Ottawa Branch became the second chartered Branch of what was to become CGA Canada. At this time, the name of the first chair is lost in the annals of history.
In January of 1952, a special general meeting of CGA Canada was held. This meeting, pivotal in the history of CGA Canada, amended the national bylaws to refer to “provincial associations” instead of “branches.” Branches were henceforth known as chapters and Ottawa Chapter, as we know it today, was born in 1958 as a chapter in the newly formed CGA Ontario. Until the early 2000s, Ottawa Chapter maintained an administrative branch office in downtown Ottawa.
Today, Ottawa Chapter is the Association’s third largest in terms of population with more than 2,650 CGAs and students in the CGA program of professional studies.
