CGA Canada's Silver Jubilee

Queen's Hotel Lobby, MontrealOn Monday, April 25, 1938, CGA Canada celebrated the 25th year of its charter of incorporation by staging a Silver Jubilee Banquet. The event was held in the ornate Spanish Room of the Queen’s Hotel on Peel Street in Montreal.

Situated on Peel Street, close to the Grand Trunk's Bonaventure Station and not far from the Canadian Pacific's Windsor Station, the Queen’s Hotel opened its doors in 1893. Its elegant facing of fashionable red sandstone masked the modernity of its structure, which was partly steel.

Seated on the left, with her hands crossed, CGA Canada's Silver Jubileeis Ivy Thomas (née Cox). Six year earlier, Ivy had become the first female CGA—perhaps the first female professional accountant—in all of Canada. In 1938, she was still working in the office of her mentor, T.H. Frankling, and was a decade away from becoming the first female chair of Toronto Branch—the precursor to CGA Ontario.
